Tarana for ensuring safer internet

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Tuesday made a call for ensuring safer internet alongside make it available for all.
The state minister made the call while addressing the opening ceremony of eighth edition of three-day Cyber Security Forum (CSF-8) in a city hotel as the chief guest.
She said cyber crime has now been appeared as global phenomenon and it has to tackle globally.
Referring to Bangladesh and other developing countries focus to digitiszation, Tarana opined: “We are formulating policies on tele-density, internet penetration, e-governance, etc but we are still lagging behind on cyber security issue.”
Turning on to the cyber crimes in Bangladesh, the state minister said Cyber bullying and hate speech are being perpetrated on social media and other medium. “But, telecom regulator and national telecommunication monitoring centre (NTMC) are working together to tackle the issues.”
Tarana Halim urged the participant countries to ensure safer internet alongside make internet available to all.
Hosted by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Posts and Telecommunications Division, the CSF-8 has been organised by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT).
Speaking as the special guest, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder said, “We have made significant progress of building ‘digital Bangladesh’ but still lag behind in cyber security.”
He said Bangladesh Computer Council is providing training on cyber security.
BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood said there are more scope to work in cyber security and the CSF-8 would help the participants to strengthen their skill and knowledge.
