Bir Partik Taramon Bibi, who is suffering from respiratory complications, has been admitted to the National Institute of Chest Diseases & Hospital (NIDCH) in Dhaka.
She was shifted there from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Wednesday morning.
The Liberation War hero might be transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka as the condition of her lungs was getting ‘critical’, said NIDCH Director Prof Rashedul Hasan.
On Monday, Bibi was taken to the MMCH from Kurigram with respiratory problems. She was shifted
to Dhaka as her situation was deteriorating, according to MMCH doctors.
Prof Hasan said, “She suffered from tuberculosis for a long time … Now her lungs don’t function properly. So, she is dependent on artificial breathing … This is also affecting her heart.”
“So, we are thinking about sending her to the CMH for better treatment,” he told bdnews24.com.
In January this year, she was admitted to Rangpur’s Combined Military Hospital with similar problems. She was released on Jan 31. The gallantry award-winning freedom fighter, mother of a son and a daughter, lives at a village in Kurigram’s Rajibpur Upazila.
She had fought the 1971 Liberation War in Sector-11 led by Col Abu Taher. Apart from being an aide to the freedom fighters and spying on the Pakistani forces, she took part in battles.
In 1973, the Bangladesh government awarded her with gallantry award ‘Bir Pratik’ for her contributions.
But, her whereabouts were unknown until she could be traced in 1995. On Dec 19 the same year, the honour was conferred to her.
