Today is birthday of noted Tagore artiste Tapan Mahmud. In 1951, he was born in Barishal city. His wife Bula Mahmud is also a noted Tagore artiste. He willingly retired as Deputy Secretary from Water Development Board after completing 25 years of his job career. Tapan has two daughters. In his long 50 years musical career, Tapan Mahmud received many awards. He is founding general secretary of Boitalik Shilpi Gosthi which was established in 1970. Now he is working as Director of Boitalik which has been formed as Rabindra Sangeet group. From 1979 to 2008 he worked as teacher of Rabindra Sangeet at Bulbul Lalitakala Academy and later became its principal of Dhanmondi branch. Established in 1988, Tapan Mahmud was founding general secretary of Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha. Now he is working as its president.
