Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has passed away at the age of 61. The country’s Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan confirmed his death on Wednesday.
She said President John Magufuli had died of a long-suffering heart attack. Samia Suluhu said Magufuli was admitted to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute on March 6 due to heart problems and discharged the next day. But a week later, as his condition worsened, he was rushed to Mzena Hospital, where he was under the supervision of doctors from the cardiac institute, she added.
His burial arrangements were underway and announced 14 days of mourning and the flying of flags at half staff. Tanzanian President John Maguful has not been seen in public since February 28. He was thought to have contracted Covid-19. But the country’s top officials denied the matter and Vice President on Monday called on Tanzanians not to heed any rumors.
