Premier Division Cricket League: Tanvir register Khelaghar’s emphatic win

A fierce bowling display by left-arm orthodox Tanvir Islam helped Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity register an overwhelming six-wicket victory over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the ninth round of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Chasing a winning target of 168-run set by Sheikh Jamal, Khelaghar reached to their destination in 40 overs with six wickets in hand.
Indian recruit Ashok Menaria led Khelaghar towards the victory with an unbeaten 58 runs. He also contributed in the 97-run fourth-wicket stand with Rafsan Al Mahmud (49), after Khelaghar suffered an early batting jolt as they slipped to 70 for 3 in 17.3 overs.
Sohag Gazi, Robiul Haque and Sajedul Islam all of them took one wicket for Khelaghar.
Earlier, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club was cheaply dismissed at a paltry total of 167 in 48 overs, after they were put to bat first by Khelaghar.
The highlight of Sheikh Jamal’s dilapidated innings was Tanbir Hayder’s 52 runs. Four of Sheikh Jamal’s batsmen lost their four wickets in between 13 to 24 runs.
Tanvir Islam, the wrecker in-chief, caused the major damage as he grabbed four wickets of Sheikh Jamal conceding 30 runs while Anjum Ahmed supported him taking three wickets for 16.
Besides, Moinul Islam took two wickets giving away 32 runs.
Tanvir Islam of Khelaghar was named the player of the match for his fierce bowling spell.
