Tannery workers Union celebrated ‘International Women Day’ at Hajaribug area in the city recently.
As a labor intensive sector, a huge no of women work force is engaged with the leather sector.
For appreciating the contribution and ensuring the safety /rights of the women work force a rally was conducted, with the participation of women workers and owners at the event and then a group discussion was held at the Tannery workers unions’ office recently.
Discussion session was presided by the, Abul kalam Azad, president,Tannery Workers Union. Shakawath Ullah , General Secretary Bangladesh Tanners Association- Owner of Salma tannery Ltd., Mizanur Rahman, Treasurer, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA)-Owner Samata Leather Complex and Abdul Awal, Vice -chairman Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather goods and Footwear Exporters Association(BFLLFEA)-Owner Vulua Tannery was presented as special guest at the event. Sanjoy Kumar Thakur, Local project manager, ECOLEBAN project was the key note speaker of the event.
Saimon Rahman from Oxfam,discussed about the importance of women involvement for the sustainable industrialization.
