Faruk murder: Tangail AL MP Rana denied bail

The High Court on Sunday denied bail to ruling Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in Faruk Ahmed murder case.
An HC vacation bench of Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Khijir Ahmed rejected the bail petition citing it as ‘not pressed’. Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder and Advocate Abdul Matin Khashru stood for Rana while deputy attorney general Mosharraf Hossain Sarder stood for the state.
Earlier on September 26, Ruling Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana was denied bail by a Tangail court in the murder case. Awami League MP Amanur appeared before the Tangail additional district and sessions judge on September 18 ending his 22-month fugitive run.
The AL leader went into ‘hiding’ after he was accused of killing freedom fighter and member of district unit AL Faruk Ahmed. On 18 January 2013, the Awami League leader was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town. Later, Faruk’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection.
Fourteen people, including four brothers of Tangail’s influential Khan family, were accused in the murder case.
