Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal scored his 10th century in Test cricket. Tamim notched up 133 runs on the third day play in the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.
Tamim played 217 deliveries in his 133-run innings with 15 fours before he was retired hurt.
Tamim Iqbal reached his 10th 100-run landmark playing 162 balls hitting 12 fours.
In-form Tamim Iqbal could not see century for a long time. After two years and two months, Tamim Iqbal hit his 10th Test century.
It was Tamim’s first Test century against Sri Lanka.
Tamim scored one run of the Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando in the 51st over of Bangladesh’s innings. Earlier, Tamim Iqbal scored his ninth century against New Zealand in February, 2019. After that innings, Tamim Iqbal scored six half-centuries but he failed to hit a three digit figures in Test cricket.
Tamim Iqbal resumed his innings with the over-night score of 35.
Tamim and the other opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored together 162 runs in the opening stand before Mahmudul Hasan Joy was caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Asitha Fernando. In that time, Tamim Iqbal was on exact 100.
Tamim reached his fifty-run landmark using 73 balls with seven fours.
The left-hand opener struck seven half-centuries against Sri Lanka. But it was the first century for Tamim against Sri Lanka. When Tamim Iqbal returned to the pavilion after he was retired hurt, Bangladesh’s score was 220 for the loss of three wickets.
He scored 4981 runs playing 66 Test matches. He needs just 19 runs to score 5000 runs in Test cricket. If he can score 5000 runs, he will be the first Bangladesh batter, who reach the 5000-run elite club.
