Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim Iqbal lamented for his dismal departure in the first ODI against Zimbabwe held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) on Saturday.
“The way I was out not good at all, I was set and could have played a big knock. I was in right according to my preparation, but mistakenly made wrong application.”
The southpaw batsman expressed disappointment over his way to get back to the pavilion in the last match, prior to the Tigers practice session at SBNCS on Sunday.
“I was trying to clear the ball for a boundary over the cover area, but the shot selection wasn’t right at all. I didn’t play that shot on a ball it was meant to….. I chose a ball that didn’t suit for such shot. I know as such a mistake I shouldn’t do at this level,” Tamim continued.
“I think I have wasted a good chance of playing a big knock…I should have been a bit of patient as I was set and batting on 40,” Tamim allowed his mistake.
Bangladesh will take on visiting Zimbabwe in the 2nd ODI with an advantage of 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the same venue on Monday.
In the first match on Saturday, Bangladesh beat visiting Zimbabwe by 145 runs with Mushfiqur Rahim’s century of 107 runs and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s maiden five wickets haul in the shorter format.
