Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan showed a superb performance as Jamaica Tallawahs reached the final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) beating Trinbago Knight Riders by 19 runs (D/L Method) in their play-off match at Warner Park in Saint Kitts on Friday.
Jamaica Tallawahs made a modest start losing early four wickets for 67 runs.
Then Shakib Al Hasan and Andre Russell rescued their team from danger contributing together 101 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Shakib Al Hasan was cleanly bowled out by KK Cooper when Tallawahs total was 168 for the loss of five wickets. Shakib Al Hasan made 19 playing 23 balls including one four.
Andre Russell hammered a windy 100 from 44 balls featuring 11 fours and three sixes.
Opener Chris Gayle was the other notable batsman for Jamaica Tallawahs. He hit 35 from 26 balls with three sixes and two fours.
However, Jamaica Tallawahs piled up a mammoth total of 195 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Later, 129 runs were set a winning target for Trinbago Knight Riders in 12 overs, according to Duckworth/ Lewis Method.
Opener Hashim Amla of Trinbago Knight Riders was stumped out by wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara off Shakib Al Hasan when Trinbago Knight Riders score was 94 for the loss of three wickets.
After two deliveries, Sunil Narine was caught by O Thomas off Shakib Al Hasan when Trinbago Knight Riders Total was 100 for the loss of four wickets.
Later, skipper Dwayne Bravo of Trinbago Knight Riders was caught by R Powel off Shakib Al Hasan when Trinbago Knight Riders score was 101 for the loss of five wickets.
After dismissal of Bravo, no Knight Riders batsman shone with the willow. They were restricted to 110 for the loss of seven wickets in 12 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan was the most successful bowler for Jamaica Tallawahs. He claimed three wickets at the cost of 23 runs in his two overs.
Andre Russell of Jamaica Tallawahs was adjudged the Man of the Match.
