UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday directed the law enforcement agencies concerned to take tough action against those who would create problems and unleash terrorist acts in educational institutions no matter which parties they belong to.
“Prompt actions will have to be taken against those who will commit such acts (terrorist acts) …I want to see proper actions, no matter who they are,” she said.
The Prime Minister was speaking with the Police Commissioner of Sylhet as well as the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner through a video-conferencing from the Cabinet Division after the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Hasina held a video-conferencing from the Cabinet Division with Moulvibazar District Development Coordination Committee and exchanged views with the Deputy Commissioner, Police Super, District Council Administrator, Borolekha Pourasava mayor and other government officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Moulvibazar.
She also held a short video-conferencing with the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner and the Police Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner of Pabna.
Referring to the violent recent incident at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) that left a student dead and 20 others
injured, Hasina asked the law enforcement agencies concerned that there is no need to consider the party affiliation of those who would try to create any problem or unleash terror in educational institutions.
Hasina said, it is often seen that those who unleash violence or trouble in educational institutions are not students and are outsiders. “If those culprits are arrested immediately and punishment is given to them, then this problem will come under control. In doing so, there’s no need to look at anyone’s face…I want to see proper steps taken against them.”
Cabinet members, the Cabinet Secretary and senior government officials were present on the occasion.
On November 20, a BCL activist was shot dead and 20 others were wounded in a fierce clash between two groups of the students body on the SUST campus, forcing the authorities to shut it down indefinitely.
The dead, Sumon Chandra Das, was a third-year BBA student of Sylhet International University, a private university.
