UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned to take action against the illegal occupants of Gulshan Lake by the next seven days. The court directed Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) and police to implement the order.
It also asked them to submit a report by the next three weeks about the action taken against the lake grabbing.
An HC bench comprising Justice Zinnat Ara and Justice JN Dev Chowdhury passed the order upon
hearing a writ petition. The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain within four weeks why an order will not be issued for not giving permission to any party to fill up the lake and construct establishments.
Eight people, including the Environment Secretary, the Rajuk Chairman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner, have been made respondents to the rule. Advocate Asaduzzaman filed the writ petition on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh citing media reports over filling up of the Gulshan Lake by dumping sand sacks and constructing illegal establishments in its Shahjadpur area.
