Business Desk :
The exchange rate of the Bangladesh Taka (BDT) has again depreciated, by Tk 1.60, against the US dollar mainly due to higher demand for the greenback for settling import-payment obligations.
The local currency lost its value in the inter-bank foreign-exchange (forex) market on Sunday, which was reported on Monday.
The US currency was quoted at Tk 91.50 each on the day against Tk 89.90 on the previous working day. It was Tk 89.00 on June 02.
The dollar was quoted at Tk 91.50 each on the inter-bank market on Monday–unchanged from the previous level, according to market operators.
Currently, the local currency is maintaining a depreciating mode against the US dollar mainly due to higher outflow of foreign exchange following ‘hefty growth’ in import payments compared to the inflow in the last few months.
In the meantime, the local currency lost its value by Tk 5.70 or 6.64 per cent since January 2022. The dollar was traded at Tk 85.80 on January 08 last.
