Tajul urges planners for long-term plan

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam on Saturday urged the planners to make long-term plan for country’s development.
“Holistic plan is needed for country’s development…Please make long-term plans for the overall progress of the Nation,” he said. He was speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural programmes a two-day 1st international conference on urban and regional planning and national convention of planners, said a press release.
Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) organised the conference, for the first time in the country at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) auditorium with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Save the Children and Brac.
The objective of this conference is to bring together the leading academic scientists, researchers, scholars, and decision-makers in various fields of Urban and Regional Planning around the world to exchange new ideas, share knowledge and explore recent developments in the field of Urban and Regional Planning.
Tajul said, “It is not enough to make plans only for roads traffic signal, land management, waste management but you should also have plans for educational institutions, play grounds, parks and overall developments.”
“‘Purbachal’ is a new city, people have not started living there but traffic congestion has started over there, proper plan is essential to make the progress of the country and ensure the highest facilities among the people,” he added.
BIP President Professor Dr AKM Abul Kalam Azad presided over the function while Dean of Earth and Environment Science department of Dhaka University Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, former Vice Chancellor of Khulna University Prof Dr Golam Rahman also spoke, among others.
