Tajikistan has expressed its keen interest to further expand bilateral trade ties and economic cooperation with Bangladesh for the welfare of people of the two Asian nations.
The interest was demonstrated when the visiting State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam called on Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Aslov and its Minister for Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda at Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Monday.
Shahriar Alam arrived in Dushanbe on Monday to attend the High Level International Conference on the Implementation of the International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life’, 2005-2015, according to a message receive here from Tajikistan today. Heads of state or governments, deputy prime minister from Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Gabon, Kazakhstan as well as the UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon & heads of other UN agencies joined the conference that has begun at Dushanbe, today.
During the meeting, the Tajik ministers exchanged their views on a number of issues of mutual interest, bilateral and multilateral relations, trade and economic prospects.
Mentioning the friendly and brotherly relationship with Tajikistan, Shahriar underlined the need for carrying out a joint study on trade potentials between the two countries. Other areas of co-operations came up in the discussion during the meeting included hydro-power technology, textiles and garments.
The Bangladesh state minister also attended the pre-conference Round Table on Water Forum of LDCs and SIDS as a designated speaker where he highlighted different issues including trans-boundary river management, Technology transfer for water management, strengthening the capacity of national and local institutions and mainstreaming water management into the national development policy.
