Tajia processions banned on Ashura

The government has banned Tajia processions and rallies on the occasion of Holy Ashura which is set to observe on August 20 (Friday).
However, all the necessary religious performances will be observed in compliance with the hygiene rules and social distance.  
The decision was informed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday considering the coronavirus (Covid-19) situation in the country.
According to the press release, in view of the coronavirus situation, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will continue to impose restrictions on religious institutions of all religions in the current context of the country. At the same time, on the occasion of Holy Muharram, all kinds of Tajia processions, rallies will be prohibited.
On Muharram 10 in Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), along with his family members and 72 followers embraced martyrdom at the hands of Yazid’s soldiers in the desert of Karbala to uphold the teachings of Prophet (SM).
The day was observed as a symbol of “sacrifice and mourning” recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn Ali (RA) in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram.
Remembering this mourning and remembrance, Muslims around the world observe Ashura as a day of abandonment and mourning. The Shia community in the country held various programs to commemorate the first 10 days of Muharram.
On the day of Ashura, Tajia processions were brought to commemorate the mourning – which was not held last year due to Covid-19 or coronavirus.
