A two-day Taiwan textile fair started in capital Dhaka on Monday with a motto to grab the import market of manufacturing accessories.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice-Chairman Shubhashish Bose inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at a city hotel, jointly organized by Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) and the Bureau of Foreign Trade.
Addressing the inaugural function, the EPB vice-chairman sought Taiwanese investment in the manufacturing sector for the betterment of both the countries’ economy. He urged the Taiwanese stakeholders to set up their companies in the special economic zones independently or under joint ventures.
“The government has targeted to attain $50 billion export earnings by 2021, so the local entrepreneurs will be required more accessories which is now almost fully imported from various foreign countries. Taiwan is recognized as a good manufacturer of textile, denim and apparel products. If their entrepreneurs start to set up companies in Bangladesh, they will able to capture the growing import market of the country,” said Subhashish Bose.
Foreign investment is secured in Bangladesh, he said, adding that the Taiwanese investors can invest in this potential sector as well as the backward linkage industry of the manufacturing sector.
“We are trying to facilitate foreign investors to set up their industries and they can be benefited more to run their business in the country. Labour cost in Bangladesh is cheaper than other countries, so they can take the opportunity to attain win-win situation,” said the EPB vice-chairman.
He suggested the business community of Taiwan to sign deal with the business chambers of Bangladesh to operate their business smoothly.
Joint collaboration of the business community of the two countries would make a positive impact on the economy, observed the EPB vice-chairman.
“The number of listed export-oriented garment factories is around 3,500 in the country. The export oriented companies will increase in future, so the Taiwanese entrepreneurs have the opportunity and potentiality to produce and supply the accessories of the manufacturing sector in the country,” he said.
Talking to The New Nation, Vice-President of Universal Textile Co. Ltd of Taiwan Jeff Chain said, Taiwan is producing international standard garment accessories to export countries like Bangladesh, India and Vietnam.
The aim of the fair is to recognize with the business community and domestic market demand of the country, Jeff Chain said.
“Right now, we are searching for the global potential market and so far we understood that Bangladesh has already proven an ideal destination for investment,” said Jeff Chain.
