An eight-wicket haul by Taijul Islam saw Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) North Zone maintained their domination on the first day of four-day Bangladesh Cricket
League final held on Friday at the Sher- e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Put to bat first, Prime Bank South Zone completed their first innings at 271 in 83 overs . Thanks to top order batsman Soumya Sarker and middle order batsman Shuvagata Hom’s
responsible half centuries that saved Prime Bank from certain embarrassment as they lost wickets in regular intervals in the face of tight bowling attacks by the BCB North Zone bowlers, especially Taijul Islam.
The duo contributed 122 runs for the fourth wicket stand to take Prime Bank to a comfortable position , after losing opener Imrul Kayes (38), Mithun (25) and Anamul Haque (9) at 91 runs of the scoreboard.
First down batsman Soumya Sarker played an impressive 131- ball of 70-run hitting nine boundaries and one over boundary while Shuvagata Hom supported him with a priceless 72-ball of 60- run with six boundaries and two over boundaries.
Later, Taiabur Parvez’s useful 39 runs and Ziaur Rahman’s unbeaten 21 runs took Prime Bank to cross 250 runs land mark.
Taijul Islam caused the major damage for Prime Bank taking eight wickets conceding 86 runs. He was well supported by Sanjamul Islam who bagged two wickets giving away 46 runs.
BCB North Zone, however, still trailed 256 runs in the first innings as they scored 15 for no loss in 8 overs at stumps with openers Myshukur Rahman (3 batting) and Junaid Siddique (11 batting) were on the crease as the stumps were drawn for the day.
