Bangladesh star Taijul Islam said that they still have some areas to develop in the spin department for the Tigers’ spin arsenal.
The latest in a long line of left-arm orthodox spinners of Bangladesh cricket team, Taijul helped Bangladesh to take the lead in the ongoing series against West Indies taking six-for in the first Test in Chattogram.
Talking to reporters Taijul said “I think we still have some areas (relating to bowlers building partnership) to develop. It needs a bit more time as the Test cricket is tough. You may see the things in one way from the outside, but the real match situations are different.”
“Miraz (Mehidy Hasan) has been playing well for the last two years, I am here as well, and Nayeem (Hasan) came as a newbie. We are doing well so far, but I think we still have some areas to develop. If we get enough time, we will surely deliver more large contributions for the team,” Taijul further said.
Taijul played a pivotal role in the series-draw against Zimbabwe in the previous home series. He took 18 scalps with three consecutive five-fors. The left-arm spinner managed to maintain his golden run against West Indies too as he took six wickets in the second innings of Chattogram Test. And thus, Taijul took another step towards becoming the fastest to take 100 Test scalps for the Tigers. His current haul stands at 94 wickets in 22 matches.
Shakib Al Hasan, the current captain of the Bangladesh Test side, is the holder of the record of fastest Bangladeshi to reach the 100-wicket milestone as he took 100 wickets in his 28th Test. “I always try to bowl well, and I will keep trying this in coming days.
Here is nothing more in my head. The more I will bowl well, the more chances to take wickets will arrive,” Taijul says regarding his possibility to become the fastest Bangladeshi to take 100 Test wickets.
