UNB, Dhaka :Bangladesh left arm spinner Taijul Islam became the first bowler to make a hat-trick on his ODI debut on Monday, enabling hosts Bangladesh to sweep the five-match ODI series 5-0 whitewashing Zimbabwe, at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.Taijul Islam is another in a long line of left-arm spinners that Bangladesh have produced, but in his first international season he has come up with two outstanding performances which have made him memorable. In only his third Test, against Zimbabwe in Mirpur, he took 8 for 39, the best figures by any Bangladesh bowler in Tests. A month later, making his ODI debut against the same opponents at the same venue, he made a hat-trick, becoming the first bowler ever to make a hat-trick on ODI debut. The 22-year-old cricketer from country’s northern district of Natore, Taijul, who made his Test debut in last September against West Indies began his second spell today (Monday) with Zimbabwe on 120 for 5 and removed Solomon Mire with his first ball, but the greater drama was yet to come.Taijul took Tinashe Panyangara’s wicket with the last ball of the over and when he returned he accounted for John Nyumbu and Tendai Chatara to complete his hat-trick.That saw Zimbabwe slump to 124 for 9 with Taijul claiming 4 for 11 runs with two maidens in seven overs in a spectacular collapse as the tourists went from 95 for 1 to 128 all out.Zimbabwe had chased in all four of the previous matches in this series, twice after winning the toss, but decided to bat on Monday and Hamilton Masakadza led the way as they reached 60 for 1 after 10 overs.Taijul had his first wicket as he removed Mire (9) lbw, but the best was yet to come after he bowled Panyangara for a duck with the final ball of the over.Nyumbu (3) was out lbw with the first ball of the 29th over to leave Taijul on his hat-trick and when Chatara completely misjudged a sweep first ball, the delivery hit his off-stump to spark the celebrations.Tafadzwa Kamungozi exited for 2 to end the innings and Zimbabwe had lost nine wickets for just 33 runs.
