The 76th death anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore was observed in the city with a call for building up a society free from disparity, injustice and inequality as depicted in his literary works.
Scores of socio-cultural, literary organisations and different educational institutions observed the anniversary through organising discussions on Tagore’s life and works, presentation of dramas, recital, dance programmes, exhibition of Tagore’s arts and presentation of Tagore songs.
Zila Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Chittagong chapter, Theatre Institute Chittagong, Foolki, Proma recital organisation, Roktokorobi, Bistar and Kwanon, among other cultural organisations, observed the day through daylong programmes.
Chittagong centres of Bangladesh television and Bangladesh Betar also aired special programmes highlighting significance of Tagore’s anniversary.
