The 154th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated on Friday in the city in a befitting manner.

The main programme was held at the slope of the picturesque DC Hill where Sammilito Panchishe Baishakh Udjapon Parishad staged a number of cultural functions to celebrate the day.
The programme venue turned into a meeting place of cultural activists as well as admirers of the great poet.
Presentation of dances in different styles, recitation from Tagore’s poems and singing of Tagore songs by the various cultural organisations enthralled the huge audience who gathered there with their near and dear ones in the late afternoon to enjoy the port city’s main event on this occasion defying the scorching sun.
Group and solo presentation of the Tagore songs by the young singers was the main attraction of the programme at DC Hill.
