Campaign for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is gaining momentum with the voting date getting closer.
All the mayor and councillor candidates are passing very busy days and meeting the voters from early morning to mid night.
Meanwhile, Tabith Awal, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mayor candidate for DNCC, and Fazle Noor Taposh, Awami League (AL) nominated mayor candidate for DSCC, have brought allegations against their rivals for attacking their election campaign.
On Sunday, Tabith Awal accused the ruling party activists of attacking his campaign near Shah Ali Mazar at Uttar Bishil of Mirur-1.
He said that they attacked his election procession shouting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans in front of police at about 11am and pelted brickbats that left one injured.
“We cannot continue our election campaign peacefully. My party men came under attack also on the previous day. We’ll inform it to the Election Commission,” he added.
On the other hand, Taposh started his third day election campaign from Shantinagar kitchen market area.
At that time, he brought allegation against his political rivals for attacking his electioneering.
“I went to the house of my rival candidate Ishraq Hossain while campaigning
at Gopibagh to seek votes. But, they launched a sudden attack on our councillor candidates and others in the evening,” said Taposh.
The son of Jubo League founder Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni said, “We want a friendly political atmosphere and politics of change. I wish the country people will join the `rood march for change.”
Contrarily, Ishraq Hossain alleged that the level playing field had been not created for opposition political parties to contest the upcoming DCC polls, and the Election Commission is not doing enough about it.
Ishraq made the allegation while speaking to reporters in his election campaign in front of Kabi Nazrul College on Sunday. He also said leaders and activists of the BNP were attacked by ruling party activists.
