CC poll manifesto: Tabith pledges livable city

Tabith Awal, the BNP-backed mayor candidate for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls, has announced his electoral manifesto. He made a 12-point pledge, including making the Dhaka city free from traffic jam, and pollution of environment, air and sound.
Tabith, son of BNP Chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo, unveiled the manifesto at a press conference at his electoral office at Tejgaon in the capital city on Thursday. BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed and convener of the ‘Adarsha Dhaka Andolan’ Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed among others also attended the press conference.
Earlier on Wednesday night, the Adarsha Dhaka Andolon, the platform floated for working in favour of the BNP-backed candidates, also unveiled a common manifesto for the two mayor candidates of two cities of Dhaka, promising to make the cities livable, safe and clean for all.
Shaukat Mahmud, member secretary of the platform, announced the manifesto at a press conference at National Press Club. They
mentioned 17 issues in their manifesto. Emajuddin Ahmed speaking at the press conference reiterated the demand of army deployment at least seven days before the city polls.
Announcing his manifesto, Tabith said, “Though regrettable, it is fact that Dhaka city which has a wonderful history and tradition is now being identified as an unlivable city in various international surveys. Under this context, I would like to make the city a modern and livable city using the experiences of elderly people and spirit of the youth.”
In the four-page manifesto, the BNP-backed candidate focused the issues of safe footpath, clean water, food, accommodation, healthcare, education, social development, amusement facilities, digital services and public safety. He pledged to build an ideal Dhaka free from corruption holding the spirit of Bangladesh nationalism, democracy and communal harmony. He also gave priority to ensure regular drain cleaning to resolve the water logging issue and removing the city’s wastages in dawn.
If elected as DNCC mayor, he will resolve corruption, harassment and other complexities centering holding tax from the city dwellers. He will also ensure logical solution of power, water and gas crisis for the DNCC citizens, Tabith told the reporters.
Asked as to how he will implement his manifesto as a mayor has no jurisdiction to carry many activities he mentioned to do so, Tabith said, “I will implement my plans in consultation with the government.”
Emajuddin Ahmed said that Tabith’s plans to resolve the city’s problems are unique and wonderful, and urged the voters to elect him to make the DNCC a wonderful and ideal city.
