Farmers of the district are now passing their busiest time as transplantation of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) seedlings has started in full swing here.
Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said the government has fixed a target of producing about three lakh tonnes of Ropa Aman rice from 69,600 hectares of land in the district during the current season 2022-2023.
Of the total target, high yielding varieties of Ropa Aman rice will be produced from 63,600 hectares of land, hybrid varieties from 5,000 hectares of land and local varieties of T-Aman rice will be produced from 1,000 hectares of land, the sources said.
Farmers of the district are planting seedlings of Aman paddy by providing irrigation with the help of deep tube wells even if there is no rain water. Although plantation of saplings started from the middle of June, farmers of the district started the planting of Ropa Aman saplings in full swing from the first week of July.
Deputy Director of the DAE, Joypurhat Md. Shafiqul Islam said around 450 hectares of land have already been planted.
According to the DAE, seedbeds have been prepared on four thousand hectares of land in the district during the current season of 2022-23.
After the bumper Boro harvesting, the farmers of the district are currently making extensive preparations to plant Ropa Aman paddy seedlings, the official of the Agricultural Department told BSS.
