Harvest going on in full swing: T-Aman production exceeds target

Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) rice production already exceeded by 12.24 per cent in Rangpur area this season.
“The farmers have already produced over 15.71 lakh tonnes of T-Aman crop in terms of clean rice against the fixed target of producing 14 lakh tonnes of rice,” said Regional Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Shah Alam.
The farmers so far completed harvesting T-Aman crop on 5.41 lakh hectares of land out of 5.85 lakh hectares total cultivated land area in Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari district under the region.
“Record output of 16.98 lakh tonnes of T-Aman rice, higher by 2.98 lakh tonnes or 21.29 per cent than the fixed 14 lakh tonnes production target, is expected this time after completing harvest on rest 44,240 hectares of land in the region,” Alam added.
According to DAE sources, farmers have cultivated T-Aman crop in 5.85 lakh hectares of land exceeding the fixed target of bringing 5.21 lakh hectares of land under its farming by 64,039 hectares or 12.28 per cent in the region this season.
The farmers finally brought 29,689 hectares of land under cultivation of hybrid variety, 5.24 lakh hectares high yielding variety and 31,313 hectares under local variety T-Aman rice farming this time in the region.
“The farmers have so far harvested hybrid variety T-Aman on 29,689 hectares of land, high yielding variety on 5.08 lakh hectares and local variety on 3,415 hectares of land,” Horticulture Specialist of the DAE Khondker Md Mesbahul Islam told BSS today.
“The achieved T-Aman crop yield rates in terms of clean rice so far stand at 3.46 tonnes per hectare for hybrid variety, 2.88 tonnes for high yielding variety and 1.74 tonnes per hectare for the local variety Aman this season,” he added.
He said the recent floods damaged T-Aman crop on 5,548 hectares of land causing production loses of 14,867 tonnes of rice worth Taka 47.575 crore and Aman seedbeds worth Taka 20.10 crore on 4,070 hectares of land in the region.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Harvesting of transplanted (T) Aman paddy, a high yielding crop, has been progressing fast in all seven upazilas in the district during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a target of producing 2,22,767 tonnes of rice as the paddy was cultivated on 84,371 hectares of land in the district this year.
As the T-Aman has ripened, the growers continued harvesting the crop amid much enthusiasm.
M Amir Ali, a farmer of Putimari area under Muktinagar union of Shaghata upazila, said farmers are happy as they are getting desired output and fair prices of the produces. Additional deputy director of DAE Showkat Osman said favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seeds and timely supply of fertilizers and other agri inputs to the growers are the reasons for getting desired production of the crop.
BSS from Netrakona reports: Harvesting of T-Aman paddy has been going on in full-swing by the Aman growers in all the ten upazilas of the district. The Aman cultivators are expecting a bumper production this year.
District Agricultural Extension Department (DAED) Office sources here said, T-Aman paddy was cultivated on 1, 38, 135 hectares of land exceeding the district’s T-Aman farming target fixed at 1,27,771 hectares of land this year.
