T-Aman farming progressing fast in Gaibandha

Farming of T-Aman paddy, a high value crop, has been progressing fast in all the seven Upazilas of the district since July amid much enthusiasm.
Office sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set a target to bring a total of 84,471 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy cultivation this year with the production target of 2,22,767 tonnes of rice.
Of them, some 76,560 hectares of land would be cultivated for HYV (high yield variety) with an output target of 20, 809 tonnes of rice, 899 hectares would be cultivated for Hybrid with the target of 2,967 tonnes and 7,012 hectares would be cultivated for LV (local variety) with the target of 2,967 tonnes, sources said.
The upazila wise breakup of the land to be cultivated is : 13,100 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 10,100 in Sadullapur upazila, 8,800 in Palashbari upazila, 20,400 in Gobindaganj upazila, 18,400 in Sundarganj upazila, 9,400 in Saghata upazila and 4,271 in Fulchhari upazila.
Meanwhile, as many as 75,830 hectares of land of the district were
cultivated for T-Aman paddy till August 13 and the rest of the land would be brought under farming within August 30, said an official of the DAE.
To bring the land under the farming of T-Aman paddy the farmers of the district have already prepared seedbed of 7,089 hectares of land where the seedlings have grown well, he also said.
Earlier, to make the farming a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and its approved dealers distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair prices.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank have taken initiatives to disburse agri loans in easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them for cultivating the T-Aman paddy on their land, said a bank official.
In addition, DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies in paddy cultivation, crop management, judicious use of fertilizer and preservation of quality seed, said Shawkat Osman, additional Deputy Director (Crop) of DAE.
To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, BMDA has also kept its electricity run to drive 365 deep tube wells to supply irrigation water, said field engineer Qudrat-e-Elahi. Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said necessary measures had been taken for availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other agri inputs at the grass root level of the district during the current Aman season.
