T-Aman cultivation starts in Netrakona

The government has taken a massive transplanted Aman (T-Aman) cultivation programme in Netrakona district this year.
District Agricultural Extension Department (DAED) office sources said, under the programme a target has been fixed to cultivate T-Aman paddy on 1,27, 771 hectares of land in ten upazilas of the district to produce 3,04,500 metric tons of Aman rice.
According to the programme, 590 hectares of land would be brought under Hybrid variety of the T-Aman paddy, 86,031 hectors of land under High
Yielding Variety (HYV) and 41,150 hectors under local variety.
Meanwhile, Aman cultivation has started in the district and farmers are passing busy times transplanting Aman seedlings on their lands. Already Aman seedlings have been transplanted on 49,860 hectares of land.
Five hundred and eighty hectares of land have been brought under Hybrid variety of the paddy, 42,475 hectares under HYV variety and 6,805 hectares under local variety. The rest of the land is expected to be brought under T-Aman cultivation within a month.
Apart from this, a special programme has been designed by the DAED Netrakona to set up 420 demonstration plots on 163 hectares of land in the district.
The DAED has started supplying improved quality of seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs and irrigation machineries free of cost to the farmers to help them set up demonstration plots.
Agri tech fair begins
A five-day agriculture technology fair began on Netrakona Old Collectorate Building premises on Monday under the auspices of Netrakona district administration and district agricultural extension department.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, MP, formally inaugurated the fair with a call to the farmers for adopting the latest agricultural technologies for boosting food production with a view to building national food security as well as the ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The deputy minister Joy highlighted the different farmers-friendly programmes of the present government said that the present government under the farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been putting in the best and sincere efforts for ensuring socio-economic emancipation the country’s farmers and freeing the country from hunger and poverty.
Deputy commissioner of Netrakona Dr. Musfiqur Rahman presided over the inaugural function which was addressed, among others, by deputy director of district agriculture extension department of Netrakona Dr. Bilash Chandra Paul.
A total of 10 stalls were set up at the fair.
