T-Aman cultivation begins

The cultivation of T-Aman paddy has began in all the six upazilas of the district during the current season.
Due to favorable climate condition and sufficient rainfall farmers of the district are now working round the clock in their fields for transplanting T-Aman seedlings expecting a bumper production of the paddy.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources a total 39111 hectares of land would be brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation in the district this season. Of the total 31754 hectares of land would be brought under high yielding variety of the paddy and 7357 hectares are under local variety.
Latafut Hossain, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension Narsingdi told The New Nation that there is no shortage of T-Aman seedling in the district. He said if there is no climate hazard a totat of 98504 tons of T-Aman rice are expecting to be produced in the district this seasons
The Deputy Director said the local DAE provided the farmers with logistic support including seeds, fertilizers and necessary equipments .BADC distributed 420 tons of high yielding varieties of T-Aman seeds among the farmers of the district.
Monirampur (Jessore) Correspondent adds: T-Aman cultivation has been progressing fast in Monirampur Upazila .
Department Agriculture Extension (DAE) source said, with a target to produce 58 thousand metric tonnes of rice , the department has fixed up 22 thousand hectares of land to bring under cultivation but in 9 months only 16 thousand hectares of land were cultivated.
 Due to water logging caused by heavy rain that occurred for the last few days , cultivators will not able to cultivate one thousand 5 hundred hectares of land. .
 Mentionable heavy rain inundated low areas of the Kapattakhi river basin and Bhabodah Sluice gate adjacent beel area and T-Aman land goes under rain water.
