Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said, Sylhet will be the Bangladesh’s first digital city where the residents will have access to free WiFi at every corner of the city. Residents of Sylhet city will get a vast network of WiFi coverage for free.
He was addressing a two-day freshers’ reception at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Wednesday.
Talking to the new students, he said: “Skilled manpower is necessary to turn Sylhet into a digital city. We also need them to manage the system, and you (students) will have to take on that responsibility.”
“You have to build yourselves as self-confident citizens as we are a country which has a glorious history of independence and victory. We have to be confident in order to be successful,” he added.
Adding to the conversation he said: “Our country’s financial status has improved to a great extent. There are no more Monga (Bangla word for famine) affected areas in the country.
“We have established ourselves as a developing country. We also have made significant improvements in various social index compared to our neighbours.”
SUST Vice-chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme.
Among others, Treasurer Prof Elias Uddin Biswas, President of the admission committee Shamsul Haq Pradhan, its member secretary Zahir Ahmed, and Registrar Ishfaqul Hossain were also present during the event.
