The divisional city of Sylhet is set to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she arrives here today on a daylong visit to join the diamond jubilee function of Madan Mohan College and inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of 22 development schemes.
Before departing for the capital in the afternoon, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, will address a public meeting to be organized by Sylhet District and City units of AL at Alia Madrasa Ground.
It will be her first formal visit to Sylhet after the Awami League government took office for the second consecutive term with an overwhelming victory in the last general elections held on January 5, 2014.
She, however, made stopover twice at MAG Osmani International Airport here on her way to Dhaka from abroad. Official sources said the Premier is scheduled to arrive at the MAG Osmani International Airport from Dhaka by an Air Force helicopter at 11 am today.
After arrival at the airport, Sheikh Hasina will go to the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in the city and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) on the edge of the city and offer ziarats of the mazars of two renowned Muslim saints.
