Archaeology Deptt plans to set up Divn museum
The Department of Archaeology has taken the initiative to set up Divisional Archaeological Museum in Sylhet. The department is now looking for a suitable place for the museum. Md Hannan Mia, Director General of the Department and Additional Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry, visited the proposed locations for the archeological museum in Sylhet recently. Regional Director of Department of Archaeology Dr Md. Ataur Rahman, Chief Coordinator of Save the Heritage and Environment Abdul Hye Al Hadi were present at the time, among others.
Hannan Mia said that the process of setting up the Divisional Archaeological Museum is going on. I have visited the proposed sites and will finalise a location as soon as possible. We are planning to develop archaeological sites in Sylhet to boost tourism in the area, he said. He also said that hundreds of people visit Sylhet every day to enjoy the natural beauty but they were denied the opportunity of knowing Sylhets history and heritage due to the lack of an archaeological museum. Until now, archaeological activities in Sylhet were being conducted under Cumilla office. Therefore, it is high time to set an archaeological museum and office in Sylhet, he added. Earlier, a team led by Regional Director of Department of Archaeology Dr Md. Ataur Rahman on November 4 and 5 visited several locations. Later, the team submitted a report proposing three prospective spots for the museum. The proposed sites are Jaintia Rajbari at Jaintiapur upazila, Sylhet Central Jail-2, and Jitu Miahr Bari, a hundred-year old house in Sylhet. In his reaction, Abdul Hye Al Hadi welcomed the initiative of Department of Archaeology and said that the proposed divisional archeological museum will promote the heritage of the region.

4 injured in gunfight
Four people, including two cops and a police informer, were injured in an incident of gunfight with the accomplices of an arrested robbery suspect in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet early Thursday. Sylhet district police additional superintendent Luthfur Rahman said that Golapganj police arrested Abdul Mannan, 40, son of late Asab Ali, of Golapnagar Uttargaon at the upazila, on Wednesday afternoon as he was wanted in 13 cases filed for committing criminal offences including robbery. Following the information extracted from Mannan, police conducted a raid at Tahipur village of the same upazila taking him at about 2:30am on Thursday to recover illegal arms, but his accomplices opened fire on police personnel while they were approaching toward them, the police officer said. The lawmen also retaliated forcing the robbery gang members to flee the scene firing gunshots that hit their fellow Mannan and cops, he added. Golapganj police officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that Mannan was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital after rescuing him from the spot from where 1 pipe gun loaded with 2 bullets and 2 machetes were seized. The injured police sub-inspector Pintu Sarker, constable Raki Kazi and their informer were also admitted to Sylhet Police Line Hospital, he said.

Listed criminal Gulli Kamal arrested
Police arrested Sylhet-listed accused Gulli Kamal on Wednesday. Osmaninagar Police arrested Abul Kashem alias Gulli Kamal (45), a listed robber, during a raid in the Bangla Bazar area of Osmaninagar police station. He is the son of the deceased Anu Mia of Khilogram of Jakiganj police station. Police said Gulli Kamal was the accused in multiple cases. Note that police arrested Gulli Kamal on the basis of information related to the robbery that took place at the house of former chairman of the Osmaninagar police station, Makdudus Ali, on January 29.He was sent to jail on Thursday in a robbery case filed in that case. Additional Police Super (Media) Lutfor Rahman, quoted by Police Super Mohammad Fariduddin PPM, said that in the winter, organized bandits usually try to attack the various areas of Sylhet.So, in Sylhet district, strict action has been taken against the robbers in recent times to prevent robbery.

The by-election of the Municipality of Jagannathpur to be held on 29th March. March 1st Verification Withdrawal of candidacy on March 8 and elections on March 29.The election schedule has begun after the announcement of the election.
