World Cancer Day observed
On the occasion of World Cancer Day a scientific seminar and discussion meeting was organised by North East Cancer Hospital at Fahim Lecture Gallery No. 1, North East Medical College on Sunday morning. Prof. Dr. Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of Sylhet Medical University was present as the chief guest in the seminar presided over by Prof. Dr. Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury of North East Medical College.
Dr. Abu Yusuf Md. Nazim presented key notes in the seminar. Dr. SAM Imran Ahmed discusses Maxfacial Surgery. Dr. Debashish Patwari discusses Overview of Cancer.
North East Private Limited Chairman Prof. Dr. Mohammad Afzal Mia, Prof. Dr. Mokhles Uddin Ahmed, Dr. Taimur Hossain Talukder, Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin (Head of Department, Department of Oncology, Park View Medical College) also spoke at the Scientific Seminar.
Mannan urges all in dev activities
Planning Minister M A Mannan urged all concerned to take part in development activities under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who changed the status of Bangladesh.
He was speaking as the chief guest in the inaugural function of an eye hospital in Sunamganj town recently
M A Mannan in his speech said now the world is looking Bangladesh in a different way.
This world used to treat Bangladesh as a poor and a flood-porn country he added.
The Planning Minister said worlds view regarding Bangladesh has changed for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who brought the country to another height.
M A Mannan in the function also urged government employees to do their jobs with sincerity as their salaries comes from the tax paid by common people.
DC distributes winter clothes
The intensity of winter has increased in Sylhet due to fog-covered cloudy air. Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Mojibor Rahman has distributed winter clothes among the needy in Sylhet recently. The Sylhet district administration has distributed winter clothes among helpless and poor families in different places of the district town.
He distributed 500 blankets provided by the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund in different parts of Sylhet city from 12 midnight to half past midnight on Wednesday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) of Sylhet A.H.M. Mahfuzur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Anwar Sadat and other senior officials of the district administration were present.
Meet on increase of gas production
A view exchange meeting has been held with the concerned people on the action plan to increase gas production from domestic sources.
The meeting was held at the head office of Sylhet Gas Fields Company (Sylhet) on Saturday morning in accordance with the health rules.
Chairman Petro Bangla Nazmul Ahsan was present as the chief guest at the meeting chaired by Md. Mizanur Rahman, Managing Director, Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd. Bapex’s Managing Director Mohammad Ali was present as the special guest.
Biting cold grips people
The district dwellers have been experiencing biting cold which has increased their woes.
The lowest temperature in the district was recorded at 13 degrees Celcius on Thursday while the temperature was 9 degrees Celcius on Saturday last. The sunlight was almost invisible for dense fog till Thursday noon.
Due to the biting cold, the suffering of the low income group people particularly day labourers knows no bound.
Sayed Ahmed Cohwdhury of local meteorology office told that cold wave may continue in Sylhet region till next week.
Meanwhile, different organisations have been distributing warm clothes among the cold-hit poor people but the administration is yet to take up such steps.
