445 bottles Phensidyl seized
Zakiganj Thana police on Thursday night through a drive seized four hundred and forty five bottles of Phensidyl and a private car from Aatgram village of Zakiganj upazila under Sylhet district.Police source said, depending on a secret tip, police conducted a drive in Atgram area at 10:00pm and seized 445 bottles of Phensidyl and a car when it was carrying to Sylhet city from Zakiganj Thana.A case was also filed with the Police Station over the incident against Lokman Ahmed, 38, son of Abdul Kadir of Sunandapur village under the upazila and 2/3 unnamed persons.In this connection, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zakiganj Police Station Shafiqur Rahman Khan told The Daily Observer that, police were trying to arrest drug traffickers.
Two bodies recovered
Police recovered the bodies of a businessman and a housewife from separate parts of the city on Saturday noon. The deceased were identified as Ataur Rahman Shahjahan, 37, a business man of Shibbazar in city. He was the son of late Salamat Ullah of Hatkhola union under Jalalabad Thana, and Sonia, 17, a housewife and daughter of Rajab Ali of Kaliajuri in Netrakona district. Jalalabad Thana police recovered Ataur’s dead body from Shibbazar Shahi Eidgah area at around 12 noon. The body, wrapped in a sack, bore several stab injuries, police said.Kotwali Thana police recovered Sonia’s body from the house of Dr SMIH Jalali’s at Tapoban area in the city. On information, law enforcers broke open the door and found Sonia hanging from the ceiling of a room.Both bodies were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Collage Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Jamaat man held
Police arrested an activist of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on early Thursday from Dargha Mahalla in the city. The arrestee was identified as Muhibul Haque Shahin, residence of Paira-11 in Dargha Mahalla in city, who hailed from Shibbazar area under Jalalabad Thana.
Bibidoil School’s prize giving ceremony held
The annual cultural programme and prize distributing ceremony-2015 of Bibidoil Girl’s High School was held at the School playground recently. DC of Sylhet Md Shohidul Islam graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. He distributed Merit Awards among the meritorious students of Bibidoil School and prizes among the winners of Annual Cultural Competition. The prize giving ceremony was followed by a delightful cultural function. The function was attended by UNO Anwar Hossain, upazila education officer Sottobroto Ray, MD of Excelsior Sylhet Ltd Sayed Chowdhury, Marketing Director Ahmed Ali, Juwel Ahmed, Abdhus Shohid, The New Nation correspondent S.A Shofiee, teachers, parents and students of the school.
