Sylhet Muktijoddha Sangsad bldg needs repair

The office building of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad in Sylhet is now in a miserable condition due to lack of proper care and planning even after 48 years of the country’s independence.
The authorities concerned are playing silent role in this regard though this Sangshad was situated amidst the city’s commercial area at Zindabazar in Sylhet. Portions of this Sangshad’s property were occupied by the illegal grabbers, who are the ruling party men, defying the government’s order, alleged commander of the Muktijoddha Sangsad in Sylhet.
Sources said, in 1975-76 this Muktijoddha Sangsad was built on 13.60 decimal area of land with the help of local administration to mark the different spiritual programmes based on the Liberation War.
Meanwhile, locals demanded to build this Sangshad with the modern technology and facilities including the library and research center based on the Liberation War so that the people from there can get more information about the country’s independence and Liberation War.
However, it is a matter of great regret that there is no liberation monument in Sylhet against the strong demand by the Sylhet peopls to mark the Victory and Independence day.
Sheikh Monjurul Haque, a leader of Sylhet district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), said that it is a matter of sorrow that there is no liberation monument in Sylhet. He sought intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
Suvrotho Purkaistho, Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad in Sylhet, said that they have taken initiative to build this Sangshad office with modern technology and facilities. People can get more information about the Liberation War from there. A vested quarter wants to grab the property of the Muktijoddha Sangsad, he alleged.
He further said that no monument has not built in Sylhet till now event after requesting several times with written proposal to the local administration.
M. Kazi Emdadul Islam, Deputy Commissioner , Sylhet, said that they are now planning to build a Liberation Monument. He issued strong warning against the people those who will try to grab the Sangshad’s property. He, however, could not give any reasonable answer about the dilapidated situation of the office building.
