Sylhet International University (SIU), the first private university of Sylhet was established in 2001 on its permanent campus by Gulshan Foundation for Education at the initiative of its chairman Mr. Kutubuddin Ahmed and his elder brother Mr. Moin Uddin Ahmed.

The honorable Vice-Chancellor while talking to Prof Dr Sushanto Kumar Das, VC of the University said, considering the need of higher education in Sylhet, some then departments, such as Electronics and Electrical’ Engineering, Hotel Management and Tourism , Civil Engineering and Agriculture Science will be open gradually.
