The Sylhet city dwellers have started feeling the bite of winter following drizzle this morning. A mild cold wave has started to sweep across the country from Thursday, causing a disruption of normal day-to-day routine of the people especially in the northern region of the country. The city dwellers were found rushing market for winter clothes.
According to the Sylhet Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the Sylhet was 24.4 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature 11.5 degrees Celsius today.
The mild cold wave will continue to sweep for two or three more days, said a Met office official.
Light rain/drizzle is likely to occur at one or two places over Sylhet divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur at places elsewhere over the country during mid night till morning, according to the Met office.
Night temperature may fall by 1-3 Celsius and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Warm cloth markets get momentum
The sales of warm clothes in the various markets in the Sylhet have been marked rise as the people from different walks of life are crowding various shops to buy their desired products to get rid of biting cold of the winter.
With the fall in temperature, traders of woollens and other warm clothes are doing a good business with middle-class people crowding their stalls and shops. But, the poor and floating people who cannot afford to buy warm clothes are feeling the double pinch of winter.
The condition of poor people living at the slums in the city has turned miserable due to dip in mercury for the last couple of days.
The price of the warm clothes is pretty high and sometime it goes beyond the capacity to poor people, some of the buyers said.
People were seen bargaining with the sellers while buying products from different places in the Sylhet’s Hocker Market, Hasan Market, Modhubon, Kazimansion areas.
