Sylhet Correspondent :The BNP has called a half-day hartal for today (Sunday) in the district protesting the murder of Tawhidul Islam, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist of the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College unit.Sylhet metropolitan BNP president MA Haque announced the hartal programme after the funeral prayers held on the college campus around 11:00am on Thursday. The first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the mosque of the college. The district BNP demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the murder.Meanwhile, a non-stop strike, called by the JCD, is being observed at the Osmani Medical College in protest against Tawhid’s murder.A few young men reportedly hacked Tawhid at his room number 1003 of Abu Sina dormitory on Wednesday evening.He died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The BNP and its student wing Chhatra Dal put the blame on Awami League’s student wing Chhatra League.Tawhid’s uncle Anwar Hossain Matabbar has filed a case with the Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station accusing a few unidentified people.
