Sylhet BCL man shot dead as rivals clash inside classroom

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was shot dead by supporters of his rival group inside the classroom of Biyanibazar Government College in Sylhet on Monday afternoon.
The dead, Khaled Ahmed Litu, 23, son of Foyzur Rahman, was a resident of Khasa Panditpara in the upazila. He was a follower of local BCL former entertainment secretary Pavel. However, the deceased was not a student of the college, sources said.
Following the incident, the college authorities suspended all academic activities including examination till July 22.
At least three persons have been detained from the spot in this connection.
Witnesses said around 12:00noon, some armed activists loyal to Pallab group stormed a classroom of the college and swooped on Litu when he along with his supporters was gossiping there.
They entered the classroom and started firing targeting Khaled. Khaled received bullets at his head.
According to campus sources, the clash took place between the supporters of Pavel group and Pallab group at about 12noon on Monday that also left seven other injured.
The two groups had been in clashes since long over establishing supremacy centering formation of the committee of the college unit.
When contacted Chandon Kumar Goswami, Officer-in-Charge of Beanibazar Police Station, said critically injured Litu was rushed to Beanibazar Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
 “We have already started investigating the incident. Police also detained three persons from the spot. And they are now being interrogated. Besides, we have also launched massive hunt to net the criminals,” he said
The OC said Litu died due to excessive bleeding. Additional police have been deployed in and around the campus. A tense situation is prevailing on the campus.
