The Sylhet unit of Awami League (AL) has staged a demonstration protesting the demolition of a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.
Leaders and activists of Sylhet district Chhatra League, Juba League and Swechchhasebak League also took part in the protest march which paraded from the Sylhet Registry Ground on Sunday.
The protesters marched through the city’s main road and ended in a sit in protest in front of the district party office.
The protest programme, moderated by the Sylhet City AL President FF Mashuk Uddin Ahmed was attended by Former MP Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, AL Sylhet District Secretary Adv Nasir Uddin Khan, Sylhet City AL Secretary Zakir Hussain, Adv Raz Uddin, FF Abdul Khaliq, Sujat Ali Rafiq.
Warning the miscreants, the speakers said that Freedom fighters of the country had once crushed the fundamentalists and radicals in 1971, they are now ready to defeat them again.
Moreover, they demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for those involved with the vandalism.
Earlier on 5 December, miscreants vandalized an under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia district town.
