Sylhet Correspondent :Administrator of the Sylhet Zila Parishad Abduj Jahir Chowdhury Sufian, also the district Awami League president, died at his house at the city’s Sagardighirpar area at 4 PM yesterday. He was 76. He left behind his widow, a host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death.Sufian had been suffering from intestinal cancer for long. Having treatment in the USA, he came back home weeks ago. His health condition deteriorated recently.Sufian took over as Sylhet district AL president in 2011. Later he was appointed the zila parishad administrator.His Namaj e Janaja was held at the premises of the mosque attached to the shrine of Hajrat Shahjalal (RA) after Zohr prayers yesterday.Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith expressed deep shock at the death of Abduz Zahir Chowdhury Sufian, president of Sylhet District Awami League and Sylhet District Administrator.In a condolence message, Muhith said the honesty of Abduz Zahir Chowdhury Sufian is rare at this time. The death of Sufian is irreparable loss for the politics of Sylhet, he added.The Finance Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid also expressed profound sorrow at the death of Abduz Zahir Chowdhury Sufian.Terming Sufian as a leader of mass people, Nahid said he (Sufian)worked for welfare of the people till his last day
