Syed Hasan Imam, one of the pioneers behind the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra has sung for a movie for the first time. The movie “Shadakalo Prem” is being directed by Shah Alam Mondol. The song was recorded in Vistec Studio in Kakrail. The song also has a co-singer who is Sabina Yasmeen. Kabir Bokul is the lyricist of the song while Imon Saha has composed the music for the song. According to an interview published in Bangladesh Pratiding Imam won the first prize for Tagore songs in the All India Youth Festival . He attended the festival during his student days in 1952. He also gathered huge acclamations during then by performing onstage in numerous cultural porgrammes in Bardhaman in India.
He is an established actor, film director, television director and cultural personality.
Imam started his acting career with the film Dharapat (1961). He went on to act in films like Raja Elo Shohorey, Shiit Bikel, Janajani, Ujala, Kagojer Nouka, Anarkoli, Ghuddi and Sareng Bou.He debuted in direction with the film Lalon Fakir (1972). Awards and honours added to his name include: Ekushey Padak (1999) and Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship (2013) among others. He is married to veteran dancer Laila Hasan who is also an Ekushye Padak awardee for the year 2010.
