UNB, Dhaka :
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said Sweden has expressed interest to invest in Bangladesh’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector in a big way. He said Sweden is also considering investment in potential sectors like pharmaceuticals, leather, shipbuilding and furniture.
“The Swedish investors will soon conduct feasibility study to pinpoint the potential areas for investment,” Tofail told reporters after his meeting with Swedish Ambassador in Dhaka Johan Frisell at his Secretariat office.
Responding to a question, the Commerce Minister said peace-loving people of the country do not support destructive activities like blockade and hartal.
“It’s not a political programme,” he said adding that law will take its own course in preventing terrorist activities.
“The people of Bangladesh are united against terrorist acts and shops, trade and commerce, and transport remained operational,” Tofail said and hoped that normal environment will fully be restored soon.
He said the present government is encouraging foreign investment in Bangladesh.
The Commerce Minister also said that the government has taken necessary steps to increase export of garments, pharmaceutical and ICT products, leather goods and ships considering huge demands.
