Hundreds of people of Hindu community, particularly students, celebrated Swaraswati Puja before a 40 feet tall Swaraswati, Hindu Goddess of wisdom, installed at Ambari village under Kotalipara upazila of the district on Sunday.
Several hundred devotees from different areas gathered before the 40 feet tall Hindu Goddess, first time in Bangladesh, erected at Ambari to celebrate the puja.
The devotees, especially the students from schools and colleges attired colourful dresses, offered special prayers and observed fasting as per ritual of the religious festival to seek knowledge from the Goddess Swaraswati.
A cultural function was also held on the occasion.
In the district, many images of Goddess Swaraswati were also erected at different puja mandaps, educational institutions and makeshift places for worships.
Gouripur Correspondent adds: Saraswati Puja was celebrated on Sunday in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district with traditional gaiety, religious fervour.
Saraswati Puja is undoubtedly one of the most popular festivals in Mymensingh region. Saraswati is the goddess of learning, arts and crafts. It is a festival celebrated by the youth, particularly students who invoke the blessings of the goddess for success in learning, arts and crafts. Throughout Gouripur upazila Saraswati Puja was celebrated in schools, colleges, clubs as well as homes.
Besides, Bani Archanas were held at Gouripur Govt. College, Gouripur R.K. Govt. High School, Gouripur Mahila Degree College, Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan Khan High School, Agradut Niketon and a good number of educational institutions as part of celebrating Saraswati Puja.
Different religious, professional and socio-cultural organisations organised Bani Archana, discussion meetings, distribution of Prashads , cultural functions and illuminations at temples , educational institutions and other makeshift places for worshipping the goddess.
Freedom Fighter Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Alhajj Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, former State Minister for Health & Family Welfare visited the Puja spots in different areas of this upazila and greeted the Hindu community.
