Police have arrested a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in connection with the deadly terror attack in city’s Gulshan café.
The detained student has been identified as Mohammad Abdul Aziz, a fourth year student of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) Department of the University, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). A special squad of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of DMP arrested Mohammad Abdul Aziz from the university campus in Sylhet city on Monday noon.
According to students and teachers, the members of law enforcing agencies in plainclothes took position around the IPE Department of the university at about 12 noon on Monday.
Being informed, some members of proctorial body of the university rushed to the IPE Department and contacted Jalalabad Police about the matter.
Later in presence of Officer-in-Charge of Jalalabad Police Station Akter Hossain, the law enforcers arrested Abdul Aziz at about 1:00pm.
“When law enforcers took position around the IPE Department, I informed the OC of Jalalabad Police Station,” SUST Proctor Professor Rashed Talukdar told journalists.
When contacted, OC Akter Hossain requested to talk to the high ups of the Police Department in this regard.
However, Assistant Commissioner of (Detective Branch) Police Nurul Huda Ashrafee confirmed the arrest.
