UNB, Sylhet :
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) reopens today (Sunday) after an unscheduled closure of about two months due to campus violence.
The students of the different residential halls began to return to their dormitories since Saturday morning, said Dr. Jahir Bin Alam, head of Civil and Environment Department of the university.
Earlier, on January 10, the university authorities decided to reopen it from January 18 at a meeting of the SUST Syndicate held with its Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Aminul Haque in the chair. They also took decision to reopen its dormitories from January 17.
On November, 20, Bangladesh Chhatra League activist and private university student Sumon was killed and 17 others were injured in an intra-party clash of the ruling party’s student wing over establishing supremacy on the SUST campus.
The clash prompted the authorities to declare the university closed sine die.
