The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet (SUST) observed the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language day on with due solemnity and respect to the martyrs.
To observe the day, SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed flew the National and University flag at the Administrative building premises and paid deep homage to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement by placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
The VC was accompanied by SUTA President Prof Dr. SM Saiful Islam, Dean of different faculties, provosts of dormitories, and teachers, students and officers of the university during paying homage to the martyrs.
SUST Teachers’ Association (SUTA), SUST Press Club, SUST Officers’ Association, Bangladesh Chhatra League SUST unit and other political, cultural and social organizations offered their respect to the language martyrs.
Earlier, a cultural function was also held at Mukto Mancha premises on Thursday evening organized by the authority where different cultural organization of SUST performed. Marking the day, a painting competition for children, an open discussion was also held at the Mini Auditorium while SUST VC Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed addressed the function as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.
Earlier, a “Provat Fery” led by SUST VC was brought out from the administrative building and paraded main streets of the campus and ended at Shaheed Minar.
