UNB, Sylhet :
The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have cancelled the studentship of BCL leader Badrul Alam for stabbing Khadiza Akhter, a student of Sylhet Government Women’s College.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting of SUST after getting the report of the three-member committee formed to investigate into the incident, said Prof Kabir Hossain, a syndicate member.
Badrul got admitted to the university in the academic year 2008-2009 and then became irregular, he said.
On October 4, the university authorities suspended Badrul Alam for attacking Khadiza.
Besides, a court on Sunday sent Badrul Alam to jail again and fixed November 15 for hearing in a case filed in connection with the incident.
Additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Jedan Al Musa, said metropolitan magistrate passed the order when police produced him before the court. He also said the chargesheet in the case will be submitted soon. On October 5, Badrul made confessional statement before police admitting his guilt.
Khadiza Akhter Nargis, 23, daughter of Masuk Miah of Biswanath upazila, was stabbed allegedly by SUST unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from college following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him on October 3.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot before handing him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
Khadiza was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to the capital as her condition deteriorated. She is now undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in Dhaka.
