Shahjalal University of Science and Technology authorities have withdrawn an assistant proctor of the university from the proctorial body for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student.
The decision to withdraw assistant proctor Plaban Chandra Saha, an assistant professor of economics at the university, from the proctorial post came froma syndicate meeting held on Monday afternoon, sources at the university administration.
The sources said that the syndicate meeting took the decision about withdrawing Plaban following a complaint filed by a social science faculty student.
University vice-chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed confirmed the news and said that the university unit of Sexual Harassment and Repression Prevention Centre was asked to conduct an investigation into the allegations.
Professor Plaban was not available for comments on Tuesday evening.
Sources at the university administration, also said that the syndicate meeting also removed petroleum and mining engineering department chief Shafiqul Islam as department head following a quarrel between two teachers at the department.
On the other hand, Associate Professor Rafiqul Islam was also barred from a promotion for the next one year.
