Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Monday announced budget for 2015-16 fiscal with a low allocation in the research sector in compare with previous year.
University’s Finance Director ANM Joynal Abedin said SUST syndicate placed the annual budget of TK 58.72 crore with a low percentage allocated for research.
A total of Tk 41.05 crore will be spent for the salaries of teachers and officials while only Tk 10 lakh for research, Tk 1.5 crore on pension sector, Tk 6 crore on general sector, Tk 7.10 crore on education sector, Tk 70 lakh on maintenance sector and Tk 2.37 core on capital grants.
The University Grants Commission will provide Tk 51.72 crore while Tk 7 crore will be collected from the university’s internal resources.
Meanwhile, a total Tk 45 lakh are expected to get on research sector from different sources like Tk 10 lakh from regular budget, Tk 10 lakh from donation and Tk 25 lakh from out of regular budget.
Government has placed the education as a commercial sector with the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project of HEQEP, World Bank making low allocation in the research, Said Anik Dhar, president of University’s Socialist Students Front (SSF).
